LIXIL Corporation (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Kinya Seto, hereinafter referred to as LIXIL) and Seven-Eleven Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Fumihiko Nagamatsu, hereinafter referred to as SEJ) have announced that in an effort to promote a decarbonized society, they have introduced LIXIL's aluminum profile "PremiAL R70" (Premial R70), which uses 70% recycled aluminum material and reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 55% in the manufacturing process, for the first time in Japan at the "Seven-Eleven Misato Uehikon'na Store" (Location: Misato City, Saitama Prefecture, opened on February 29, 2024, hereinafter referred to as this store).
It is said that the construction sector accounts for 37% of the total global CO₂ emissions, and the promotion of CO₂ emission reduction in buildings is considered essential. Especially in recent years, there has been an increasing importance on reducing embodied carbon, which is the CO₂ emissions associated with the manufacturing, transportation, and installation of construction materials used in building.
Quantifying the environmental impact of building materials through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) supports the reduction of CO₂ emissions during construction and the advancement of reduction plans by adopting companies. The "PremiAL R70" introduced this time is LIXIL's original circular low-carbon aluminum profile that enables the quantitative demonstration of the environmental impact of building materials used in construction. The CO₂ emissions in the manufacturing process of "PremiAL R70" contribute to a reduction of approximately 55% compared to when aluminum profiles without recycled materials are used.
This initiative is the result of a shared vision between LIXIL, which has created building materials that lead to reduced environmental impact, and SEJ, which is stepping up its commitment to environmental considerations in the construction of Seven-Eleven stores. The collaboration aims to reduce CO₂ emissions and pursue resource recycling. Starting with the adoption of low-carbon building materials at this store, the companies are considering the future implementation of a horizontal recycling approach. This would involve recycling aluminum recovered from renovated stores to create aluminum profiles and reusing them in the construction of new stores.
LIXIL has established the "Zero Carbon and Circular Living"
Environmental vision for 2050, aiming to achieve net-zero CO₂ emissions from business processes, products, and services by the year 2050. As part of this environmental strategy, one of the three key focus areas is "Promoting the Circular Use of Resources." LIXIL has set a goal to increase the usage ratio of recycled aluminum in its housing business to 100% by the fiscal year ending March 2031. Similarly, SEJ is working towards the goals set in the Seven & i Group's environmental declaration "GREEN CHALLENGE 2050." Among the four themes outlined, SEJ is focusing on "CO₂ Emission Reduction" to achieve a decarbonized society. The company is committed to reducing CO₂ emissions associated with store operations by 50% by 2030 and to reaching net-zero by 2050. To achieve these targets, SEJ is promoting initiatives centered on the three pillars of energy conservation, energy creation, and renewable energy procurement.
Both companies will continue to work on reducing environmental impact and creating sustainable growth and positive social impact through various measures, aiming to achieve the goals they have set. They are committed to continuous efforts to contribute to the environment and society.

■ Features of "PremiAL R70"
"PremiAL R70" is a circular low-carbon aluminum profile that uses 70% recycled aluminum material in its raw materials. By obtaining the third-party certified "EcoLeaf environmental label," it is possible to quantitatively demonstrate the environmental impact of the building materials used during construction. This contributes to the enhancement of the environmental value of buildings that use low-carbon building materials. The CO₂ emissions from the procurement, transportation, and production of 1 kg of "PremiAL R70" are 6.8 kg, which contributes to a 55% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to aluminum profiles made from 100% new metal.
