Why do we use the series 6 Aluminum Alloys?

Aluminum alloys are categorized into 9 series based on the proportion of aluminum combined with other elements to suit its properties for specific applications. For example, series 1 aluminium has a purity of at least 99%, while the series 2 is alloyed with Copper.

At Tostem Thai, whose main products are doors and windows, our primary use is series 6 aluminum alloy. This alloy is a combination of Aluminum, Magnesium, and Silicon. Widely known for its outstanding high corrosion resistance, strength, extrudability, and surface treatment.

Within the series 6 aluminum alloys, Tostem Thai offers 4 grades:

6063 is one of the most globally popular alloys for aluminum extrusion. Its key advantages are its excellent surface finish with higher strength compared to 6060, while remaining easy to extrude. Therefore, it is ideal for applications that require both strength and a great visual appearance. These properties make 6063 perfect for architectural and decorative applications.

6060 is known for its high ductility due to lower amounts of Magnesium and Silicon which are the hardening elements. This provides it exceptional extrudability, making it ideal for complex, thin-walled profiles. It is particularly popular across Europe and Australia. With an outstanding response to anodising and powder coating, 6060 delivers a flawless finish. This makes it suitable for architectural and decorative applications that prioritise superior formability and bending over the higher strength of 6063.

6005C features a medium-to-high strength profile positioning it right between 6063 and 6061. It stands out for its high extrudability, good corrosion resistance, and excellent weldability, making it ideal for producing intricate, complex extruded profiles. This makes it perfect for solar cells, architectural structures, transportation, industrial components, automotive parts and marine structural profiles such as ships.
